Wessex Cyclocross Rd 5: Reading

Round 5 of the Wessex Cyclocross League was held at Prospect Park, Reading, on Sunday.
The course is renowned for its tough wooded climbs and this race was no different despite the course going mostly the opposite direction to the usual. The infamous big climb of Hilly McHillface (named by popular vote a few years ago) was a complete leg-sapper as usual and was followed quickly by the equally infamous descent known as The Chute. This year, due to the mostly dry weather leading up to race day, descending The Chute wasn’t as treacherous as it usually is and it was easy to stay on the bike. The weather stayed dry and sunny and the course was drying out during the day, after overnight rain.

Catherine Pascoe was the only representative from the club, finishing 6th out of 10 Vet 50-59 women in a very strong field.
