Wessex Cyclocross Rd 3: Swindon

After the cancellation of last week’s racing at Romsey, Wessex riders were raring to go for what turned into the second race of the season in Swindon, organised by Cotswold Veldrijden.

Cornering skills were thoroughly tested on a course with no dismounts and lots of flowing turns, the ground conditions were good with plenty of grip to get the shoulder knobs working on the tyres.

Four New Forest riders were in attendance with Matt Knight and Catherine Pascoe kicking off their 2022 campaigns as well as team Shepherd looking to improve on their first round results from two weeks ago. Matt got off to a strong start in the rapid V40 field finishing 46th completing 7 laps of what was a relatively short course.

Emma and Catherine put on a strong display with Emma beating a number of riders that were ahead of her last season. The first half of team Shepherd finished 9th on the course and 6th in her category.

Catherine posted what will surely be the first of many top 5 finishes in the V50 category this year.

Joe was the last to ride and managed a slightly more measured ride than the first round, finishing 30th in the senior men’s race.

Next week is at Foxhill motocross track on a course that is always tough.
