Road Bike TT Series Rd.4: P164-10

The long awaited fourth round of the NFCC Road Bikes Only TT series returned to P164/10 in the sunshine after a four week hiatus in the schedule. Find out how riders got on by CLICKING HERE and see a gallery of images by CLICKING HERE. Latest standings for the Road Bike Series can be found HERE.

Goodwood Summer Series Rd. 8

Another packed race of 70 riders hit the track at the Goodwood Motor Circuit with Phill Brown the only NFCC rider in attendance again. Finding himself on the front of the pack for the first few laps and setting the pace, the race was one of the fastest of the series at nearly 45km/h average. The bunch stayed together due to the high speed but Brown found a fast line through the final chicane with three laps to go and launched a solo attack of the front, managing to hold off the pursuing bunch until the final few corners when he was swamped before the sprint finish.

Summer CX Rd.3

Round three of the Summer Cyclocross near Romsey with a great display of NFCC jerseys in various races. CX Regulars Matt Knight (pictured), Catherine Pascoe, Emma Shepherd, Jay Tarrant, and Joe Shepherd were all seen at the event and a call for a tandem category has officially been lodged after Phil Grant and Lucy Greehy were spotted on the course taking in a practice lap or two!

Thursday evening Chain Gang

Another mixed bunch for the Thursday Evening Chain Gang this week with six riders forming a peloton to practice off their through-and-off technique. A hastier start to the ride compared to last week saw a few riders getting into difficulty on the undulations before reaching Burley where Chris Harris unleashed his inner time-trialist and disappeared off into the distance solo. The remaining riders fought to stay together until the climb to Wilverley where the pack split and the pressure was on to get back to the town sign first.
Note to all chain gangers; for July the start time moves to 1900.

Saturday Club Ride

Another sunny morning for the Saturday Club Ride with nearly 20 riders showing their faces ready for the challenge of Bowerchalke hill climb just one mile after a coffee stop at the wonderful Chalke Valley Stores. A hasty start to the day saw the first group on the road get to the mid-ride stop earlier than predicted and almost finish their choice of refreshments before the second group arrived. With everyone on their best behaviour, the groups departed the coffee stop for a display of “who’s had the most caffeine” in getting to the top of the climb first and this week we find Matt Smith in the barrel for his less advised mid-ride fuel consisting of a family pack of salt and vinegar crisps, a large americano and 150mg of caffeine in a can of Monster Energy – Don’t try this at home kids. With all that caffeine onboard, Matt was only 18 seconds off his PB on the climb – impressive! A winding route took the group along a few less travelled roads on the way back into the forest before looping back through Burley and onto Brock where a second cafe stop was initiated for some. Kudos this week goes to those riders clocking over 200km in the scorching sun!

Sunday Club Ride

The weather forecast was excellent for the Sunday Club Ride so Captain Phil posted a slightly longer route this week. The 67km route included a short break at Nomansland for those that needed it.
Despite his wind controlling abilities, Phil couldn’t organise the traditional tail-wind finish this week but there was a great turnout nonetheless.

Tandem Tart Time Trial

Two tandem teams from NFCC were spotted at the annual Tandem Tart Timetrial this week with Joe & Emma Shepherd finishing 3rd overall, 1st senior tandem in 24:46. Phil Grant and Lucy Greehy crossed the line in 30:06 – Almost 7 min faster than last year! Catherine Pascoe also completed the event with Simon Hall from Crabwood.
