Wessex Cyclo-cross Round 1

A report from Catherine Pascoe –

The event was held at Droxford on the notorious motocross circuit, but it was dry and fast today, instead of the scary mud fest that it usually is.  We went up Heckler’s Hill instead of down it, as we usually do, and it was a long tough steep run but an interesting change.

All the adult races are reduced to 30 minutes each to enable all the races to take place with the minimum of people on site, as we are not allowed to arrive more than an hour before our event and we have to leave as soon as we have finished.

Matthew Knight rode the Vet 40 men’s race, finishing 42nd of 48 riders.  I obviously rode the women’s race, finishing 22nd of 30 riders and 4th V50+.  Gavin Robinson was due to ride the Senior men’s race but pulled out due to knee pain, deciding instead to give it a rest and try again for the next race.

It was great to be racing cyclocross again, even with the new restrictions.
The next event is at Sparsholt College on 1st November, but priority is being given to Wessex riders who rode at least 5 events last year.  If there are any spaces left, then other riders are accepted into the event.  Enter via British Cycling.
