Weekly Round-up: 29 Jan 2023

All the latest news, events, and results from NFCC Members from this week’s two-wheeled adventures…

NFCC Virtual TT

Another week with plenty of virtual cycling going on… Starting the week with a virtual TT on Tuesday evening, Phil Grant and Jay Tarrant had a closely fought battle with the virtual advantage of a disc wheel giving Phil the edge. We look forward to seeing how this battle plays out on the road when the TT season comes around… If you’re a current Club Member and want to get involved with the Zwift training rides, CLICK HERE to send an email and receive instructions on how to join the Virtual NFCC Zwift Club.

NFCC Virtual ChainGang

Diving back into the virtual reality, a Thursday evening chain gang session was held on LaGuardia Loop in New York on Zwift. Digital Gremlins kept a few riders at bay but of the four that managed to connect, Phill J and Matt S were left sweeping the streets after Neil S and Joe left them in their dust. Saturday Club Ride

Another weekend, another Saturday where the conditions were unsuitable for group riding. Barry made the early call to cancel the ride and another Zwift session was initiated with Matt Smith in charge… Sticking to his usual routine and making a number of excuses, he still managed to turn up late! Matt unleashed all of his power-ups in the Dust In The Wind course in Zwift’s Watopia to catch the rest of the riders who joined in. Fingers crossed we’ll be back riding in the real world soon.

Trek Bath Odd Down Winters Series Rd. 4

Back in the real world, Phill Brown ticked the box of getting his first crit race of the season completed with a trip to the purpose-built Odd Down cycling track in Bath. Over 40 riders took to the start line on the 1.5km circuit and after 40 mins at over 41km/h, Phill unfortunately missed the chance to compete in the final sprint for the line due to unfortunate positioning on the final lap… Plenty of work to be done after a winter break for Phill, but he’s looking forward to rubbing elbows back on track soon.

Sunday Club Ride

With the forecast looking brighter for Sunday than it did for Saturday, numbers were expected to be higher than usual and at least 12 riders logged their activity on Strava, despite Mr Sunday having to sit out last minute due to a bug. Leaving Brock for Beaulieu and a loop around the Ipley triangle, riders did a second loop around Bucklers Hard and East Boldre before returning for vittles.
