Weekly Round-up: 25 Oct 2026
All the latest news, events, and results for NFCC Members from the previous week of two-wheeled adventures…
Wessex CX Rd. 6: MoredonAfter a weekend off, the Wessex cyclocross league was back, this week at Moredon sporting hub in Swindon. A great venue with a crit track which gets incorporated for the start/finish straight. The course was reversed from the last couple of years with a fast tarmac start and first corner to then head into the wind before veering off onto the grass for some tight corners and the hurdles. Another tarmac straight (thankfully with a tailwind) led to a left turn to drop down the hill to the other side of the course, full of technical corners, ruts and tree roots. Saturday’s rain gave a slightly softer surface than we have been used to this season and a few slippy corners but no serious mud. |
New forest numbers were down a bit this week in the jnr/snr/masters40 open race. With Phill Brown having to pull out the day before and Howard Jarrett making it up to Swindon but having an unfortunate couple of mechanicals in practice. The NFCC starters were Jack Donaldson, Matthew Knight and Joe Shepherd (back from his foreign adventures, although 6 weeks without a bike didn’t do much for his racing). A fast start made for some interesting bunching going into the first few corners but the group quickly started to spread out. Matthew had some cleat problems throughout the race but eventually managed to get clipped in and put in some decent lap times to finish 30th M40. Joe gave it his all despite lack of race fitness and had a decent couple of laps before the pain set in and silly mistakes started to appear but he still managed to finish 22nd Snr. Jack had a tough race, struggling for grip on the slippy technical corners. Despite being held up on lap 1, he managed to put in some consistent lap times to finish 34th snr. Maybe time to get some tyres with more grip. |
Eloise Knight and Emma Shepherd were once again representing the club in the women’s race. Both had good races and enjoyed the course (except for the headwind). Emma had a much better race than the previous round (turns out having air in your tyres helps). She spent the first 2 laps in a group of 3, having to ride tactically and make the most of the group on the straights. The group split up on the 3rd lap but Emma kept pressing on to finish 6th. Eloise had a good start and put in a great effort for the conditions. Despite a late night at a gig on Saturday, she had a strong ride and a flying last lap to finish 15th overall and 2nd junior. Well done on another podium. |
